Additional Notes:

"SUICIDE-On Thursday night last, an old man named Matthew Gaskin, put a period to his existence by cutting his throat with a razor, at the house lately occupied by Mr. Wilson, on the Richmond Road. - An inquest was held on the following day, when a verdict of Felo de se was returned by the Jury. We understand that " certain parties" have objected to the remains of the unfortunate man being interred in " consecrated ground," as they have termed it. We wonder who are those who judge in this matter. " Consecrated ground," indeed, where none but the pure can be laid ! O Tempora ! O mores !"

"Suicide.-On Friday, 23rd ultimo, an inquest was held on the Richmond Road, on the body of Matthew Gaskin, who had cut his throat with a razor on the previous day. A verdict of felo de se was the result."

"In our last we stated that the body of the unfortunate man -Matthew Gaskin- who terminated his existence last week, was refused interment in "consecrated ground." We have Since been informed that his remains have been laid in St. Matthew's church-yard, the Police having had the honor of performing the burial ceremony and at night, too! the Rubric of the Church of England forbidding the OFFICE for the dead to be used for " any who have laid violent hands on themselves !" although they should have been of unsound mind at the time, or previously to the commission of the act, we suppose ! The "certain parties" alluded to in our last were those who were concerned with the disposal of the body of poor Gaskin."
