Robert Farquhar was born 25 October 1807 in Duddingston, Midlothian, Scotland. He was married to Janet Taylor at the time of his deportation and they had 10 children. After transportation he went on to marry Janet Baxter in 1848 and there were 4 known children to this marriage. He then married Mary Toomey in 1853 and there were 3 known children to this marriage. He again married in 1869 to Ellen Neagle, it is not known if there were children to this marriage. His Scottish wife did not die until 1855 therefore making his first two marriages bigamous.
