Biographies

George Howard was born 12 July 1825 at the North End, King Lynn, Norfolk. He was the 3rd son of William Howard (fisherman) and Mary Anne Caney. He and 2 others (Henry Gent & Robert Twaits) were charged with the serious assault upon Sarah Newdick. They were all 17yrs old, including the victim. 2 other boys who took part in the assault gave evidence against the other 3 and were released. He was imprisoned at Norwich Castle and appeared at the Norwich Assizes on 2 March 1843. On 12th April the Norwich Mercury newspaper reported that on the 7th April 1843, they were all found guilty of rape. They were all sentenced to transportation for life
