Biographies

Robert Russell was born in Lincolnshire, England around 1799.

In January 1846, Robert was convicted of killing a sheep and stealing parts of the carcus. He was sentenced to ten years transportation to Van Diemans Land (Tasmania). He sailed on the ship 'Lady Palmira (Palmyra)' along with 310 other convicts and arrived in Tasmania in August 1846.

He had previously married Sarah Eat on 22 August 1831 in St Mary, Long Sutton, Lincoln, England.

He was given his Ticket of Leave in 1853, just after his wife and family had begun their migration travel out the new colony. The family eventually settled around the town of Penguin on the north-west coast of Tasmania.

Robert died at the age of 78 in Penguin, Tasmania in 1877.
