Biographies

Charles Viner was born in the United Kingdom (England) in 1839. On the 7th July 1862 he was charged with larceny at Clerkenwell, Middlesex, near London and sentenced to 7 years convict labour at the Swan River Colony of Australia.

He sailed on the Vimiera on 20th September 1865 and arrived in Fremantle, Western Australia on 22nd December 1865.

Later in life his name changed to Vinneir. It is not known if this was due to spelling error or a deliberate change to distance himself from his convict/criminal past.

He married Agnes Kilmurray.

The physical description given for him on the transport record for the voyage out to Australia is as follows:
•Height = 5 foot 9 1/2 inches
•Hair = Light brown
•Eyes = Blue
•Face = Round with a florid complexion
•Build = Stout
•Distinguishing marks = Lost first joint of left big toe
