Biographies

Born 1790.
Also known in Australia as Judith, with surnames Caffray, Caffrey or Hull.
Ann had two children to John Hull, licensed victualler, John (b 1815) and George (b 1816). Their third child, a daughter Mary Ann was born on 18 April 1817. Ann and John were married on 10 June 1822 at St Mary's Roman Catholic Church, Sydney. Another daughter, Elizabeth, was born in 1821, and a third daughter, Margaret, was born in 1824.
Ann and John seem to have become separated by 11 October 1826, when John published a citation in the Sydney Gazette "cautioning the public about harbouring or trusting my wife JUDITH HULL, as I will not be answerable for any debts she may contract after this date, and any person found harbouring her will be prosecuted according to the utmost rigour of the law".
Ann died in 1851 (aged 60).
I am Ann and John's gggg grandchild, having descended from their daughter Mary Ann (1817-1887). Mary Ann married James Ames, mariner, in Sydney on 7 March 1838 at St Philips, Sydney. They had two children in Sydney before travelling in 1839 to New Zealand, where each of their extraordinary lives is recorded in a piece I have published in the Otaki Historical Society Journal (2008).
