Biographies

Mary Ryan was born in 1807 in Tipperary, Ireland. She was tried and sentenced in 1832 at Clonmel Ireland to 7 years transportation. She arrived on the "Caroline" in 1833.

Apparently she was widowed at the time another convict, Mr John Tarlington, applied to marry her in May 1834, however this request was initially denied. However, in 1837, at the ripe old age of 77, John married Mary who was then only 27 years old. They had one child, a daughter Mary Ann born 1838, before Mary died at the young age of 31.

She had received her Certificate of Freedom on 11 Jun 1840 only one year before her death.
