Biographies

Born 21st June, 1795 in Stroud, Gloucestershire, Joseph White was the son of another Joseph White and Ann (nee Peglar). His mother was convicted of various offences, in company with her son, and sentenced to transportation to NSW. In 1819, Joseph was convicted of larceny and sentenced to seven years transportation. Initially, he worked on the construction of Windsor Road. By the time he arrived in Sydney, his mother had remarried and he was assigned to her husband, Elijah Lane of Evans.
On 22nd February, 1826, he married Harriet Harding (Maundry), another convict. They had ten children. He died on 19th June, 1860 and was buried at Richmond.
He was described as a young man as being 5'4" tall with brown hair, hazel eyes and fair complexion.
