Biographies

Ann Briggs:
Birth: 1792. Baptism: 18 Nov 1792 Worlingham, Suffolk, England
Parents: John Briggs & Esther Turpin.
Crime: Fraud. Trial: Suffolk Quarter Session, 13 April 1807. Aged about 16yrs. Sentenced to transportation for 7 years.
Ship: Speke, departed Falmouth England on 18th May 1808 & arrived in Sydney on 16th November 1808.

Ann Briggs met convict John Delaney and had a child with him. John Delaney (Jnr) was born at Wilberforce, (near Windsor) NSW on the 4th July 1812. John (Snr) was later given permission to marry Ann Briggs and the ceremony took place at St. Matthews Church Windsor on 23rd August 1813.

1814: The NSW, Census & Population Books, 1811-1825 lists Ann Delaney Briggs, of the ship Speke, with one child, wife of John Delaney. Residence: Windsor, NSW, Australia.
John Delaney was granted a conditional pardon in 1815, their son John Delaney (Jnr) was formally baptised at St Matthew’s Church on 14 July 1815. We haven’t found much about their life after this, but as Ann is buried at Parramatta we assume they moved and settled there.

Ann Briggs died June 1849 aged 62-63yrs. Burial: 12 June 1849 at Parramatta, City of Parramatta Council, New South Wales, Australia. See Find a Grave https://www.findagrave.com/memorial/144449511/anne-delaney
