Biographies

Matthew EDWARDS was born Westmeath Co c1803. He was married to Anne and had 3 known daughters Mary, Ellen & Elizabeth.
Matthew was tried in 1832 (for stealing money) at Roscommon and sentenced to be transported to Australia on the "Portland" in 1833. His wife and children joined him in Australia.
Matthew's calling or trade was Butcher & cattle jobber.
Matthew is spelled both MATTHEW and MATHEW in official documents.
It is possible that Matthew was also arrested c1843 for forgery as a Matthew Edwards has been found in the Wingen area, using TROVE as the source.
Matthew's daughter Ellen married William Henry Worrad (Aurora, 1832).
Matthew's daughter Mary Ann was partner to (unclear if a marriage took place, even after a Permission to Marry was issued 07 Aug 1840) Christopher (Christy) Nowlan (also Nolan) (Phoenix III, 1826).
