I am not a descendant of this man. I'm passing on information found during my internet browsing.

Edward Carter was born about 1804, Bristol, Gloucestershire, England.
He was 20yrrs old when transported to New South Wales, Australia
Occupation: willow hat varnisher.

TRIAL: Middlesex Gaol Delivery, London 28th October 1824.

CRIME: no: 1343. EDWARD CARTER (ages 20yrs) and WILLIAM BRIGGS (Aged 18yrs) were indicted for stealing, on the 12th of October, fifteen pieces of ribbon, value 10 l.; four cloaks, value 3 l.; fourteen shawls, value 5 l.; four handkerchiefs, value 4 l.; 18 lbs. of thread, value 4 l.; one hundred and eight pieces of tape, value 28 s.; 4 lbs. of cotton, value 1 l.; twenty pieces of ferret, value 30 s.; and twelve pieces of silk-cord, value 6 s. ; the goods of Samuel Worpell; and EVE NATHAN was indicted for feloniously receiving the said goods, well knowing them to have been stolen. BOTH SENTENCED: to seven (7) transportation. Ship ‘Hercules’, sailed 24th December 1824, arrived NSW South Wales 7th May 1825.

It’s possible that this Edward Carter is the same who was granted land at Camden, NSW in 1861. Needs proof!
