Biographies

Henry Mylam Cockerill (1806-1873) was tried 14 September 1823 at Middlesex GD courts for stealing a gold watch and was sentenced to Life transportation. He left England 29 March 1824 per 'Phoenix"(2) and arrived at Hobart VDL 22 July 1824. Henry was born 2 March 1806 Curtin Road London and christened 3 November 1811 at St Clement Danes Westminster. His parents were Edward Cockerill & Susanna Beels. Henry's CP/890 was dated 6 July 1836 and Free Pardon No. 339 dated 9 July 1840. He married firstly to Eliza Vincent (1817-1864) on 15 June 1832 at Green Ponds with issue of nine sons and seven daughters. Following Eliza's death he married secondly the widow Alicia Macleay nee Corrigan (1816-1894)daughter of free settlers James Corrigan & Alice Tomlinson on 31 January 18666 at Oatlands without issue. Henry died 20 February 1873 at Hobart Tasmania.
