James arrived Sydney aged about 34 aboard Nithsdale on 26 August 1830 with his Indent showing alias " Hathersmith"

James gained his Certificate of Freedom 35/1239 dated 16 November 1835 and made application on 30 October 1836 to marry Catherine Barry (Southworth 1832)
