Biographies

Jew Boys Bushrangers; This group stole and terrorised people as they moved about areas west of Newcastle (Dungog,Maitland Scone etc) till their actions led to the shooting murder of a shopkeeper James Graham at Scone on 21 December 1840. George Wilkinson (alias Edward Davis) was the leader, with the gang's name said to be related to his Jewish faith. other members being Robert Chitty "Sophia 1829", James Everett "Mangles 1833" , John Shea "Calcutta 1837" ,John Marshall "Clyde 1832" & Richard Glanvilleb"Lord Lyndock 1838". Authorities quickly formed and chased down the gang till they were all captured and bought to trial at Supreme Court on 24 February 1841. All were charged with bush ranging with Shea also charged murder and they others aid abet murder. All six were convicted and sentenced to death and hanged in Sydney on 16 March 1841. George was assigned Australian Agricultural Co of Port Stephens on 5 July 1833, on 1837 Census "government" Vale of Clydd and on 28 February 1841 assigned Mr Sparke
