Biographies

William was tried is Sydney for the part he played in one of Australia's greatest Convict atrocities the Liverpool Plains Massacre (commonly referred to as Myall Creek Masacre) of 1838.
It was alleged that he and ten others wilfully massacred up to 30 aboriginal people on 10 June 1838 and subsequently desecrate and burn their bodies.
At their first trial on 15 November 1838 at Supreme Court Sydney all eleven were acquitted but remanded, however new evidence was presented and;
At a second trial seven of the men were retried on 27 November 1838!at Supreme Court Sydney and found guilty and sentenced to death.
William Hawkins, John Russell, John Johnson, Charles Kilminster, Edward "Ned" Foley, James Oates & James Parry All seven were hanged in Sydney on the morning of 18 December 1838
