Biographies

George Samuel Barber was convicted of stealing one pound and sentenced to 14 years imprisonment. After being imprisoned in Kings Lynn prison he was transported from Norfolk to the Swan River Settlement, arriving in 1851.
He worked on building Fremantle Prison and local roadworks becoming a Ticket of Leave man in July 1852 (14 months after his arrival) for good behaviour. He married Sarah Allen in 1855 and their union produced 5 children. He found work at the Mason and Bird timber mill around 1854 but died as a result of burns in 1879.
His son George married Emily Wells which resulted in George, William Ernest, Julia Ida Louise and Emily plus Harold, Clarence, Arthur Charles and Walter but little information is available on the latter 4, although it is thought that Clarence died as a result of a Mill accident at Buckingham's Mill on the 22/03/1922 at the age of 25.
The family lived at Canning Mills, Kalamunda and Jarrahdale.
