Biographies

James Summers born in England abt 1799.His trial at Old Bailey on 3 Dec 1817 found him guilty of stealing. He was sentenced to death which was changed to transportation for life. The 'Glory' left England in May 1818 and arrived in Sydney on 14 Sep 1818. James was sent to Windsor and assigned to William Cox. Ticket of leaves were given to work in Evan, Parramatta and Windsor. He married Margaret Sullivan (arrived on Broxbornebury) on 25 Jan 1828 at St.John's C of E Church, Parramatta.In 1831 he was in Darlinghurst Gaol for being in possession of stolen goods. James was sent to Norfolk Island for 3 years and his wife was sent to Moreton Bay for 14 years. James returned from Norfolk Island on 30 Dec 1834 and sent to Hyde Park Barracks. Margaret died at Parramatta early in 1845. James married Jane Cullen (arrived free) in 1845. They had a son James born in 1846. James received a conditional pardon on 15 Nov 1848. James was my gg grandfather. I have no other info on his parentage or when he died.
