Thomas was born about 1809 Belfast Ireland and was convicted at Antrim County Ireland of "forged notes" and sentenced to 14 years transportation.

Thomas arrived Sydney aged 21 aboard Sophia on 17 January 1829 with his Indent showing trade "merchants clerk".

Thomas was convicted on 14 August 1830 together with Jean Herman Maas (unidentified- said to be from France) of receipt forgeries and sentenced to death
