Biographies

William Sale-Smith was sent to Australia as a convict in 1820. Tried 29 Mar 1819 at Surrey assizes and sentenced to life. Sailed 11 Sep 1819 on the "Dromedary" and arrived VDL on 10 Jan 1820.

He was born about 1787 in Essex, England and died on 31 Aug 1867 at Sorrell, Tasmania. He had married Martha Sheldrick in Essex on 21 Feb 1809 and she and the children joined him in Tasmania.

He was my 4-great-grandfather, his daughter Abigail having married my 3-great-grandfather James Spalden, another convict.
