Biographies

Born in Therfield Hertfordshire in 1788 Stephen was a farmer and carrier who was transported in 1836 for 14 years for stealing barley, being one of the gang if the Royston Corn Stealers. Son James sentenced to two years imprisonment with hard labour at the same trial. In 1854 James and his brother Charles emigrated to join their father Stephen in Bathurst NSW. I think Stephen’s wife Martha also joined him at an earlier date, dying there in 1853.

Stephen became a farmer and died in Bathurst in 1862 leaving a Will.

His cousin Francis Anderson was transported six weeks after him for a different offence.
