Biographies

SAMUEL SPICER
Convicted: 23/11/1835 in the London's Central Criminal Court, together with his partner in crime; John GAST; both 19 years, were sentenced to 14 years transportation for stealing rabbits. Twelve days after sentencing Samuel & John were moved to the Hulk; 'Leviathan", where he remained until picked up with 129 others, & 70 from the YORK, on 6/2/1836, by the ship 'Strathfieldsay' at 'Portsmouth'. Thomas Braidwood WILSON; Ship's Surgeon said of them, "I must confess that, during all my former voyages, I have never had such a miserable looking squad." He continued, in his report: We were delayed at the Spithead by strong adverse winds until 10/2 when the wind being favorable we weighed anchor and made sail."

Reading Surgeon Thomas Braidwood Wilson's report, one could only come to the conclusion that he was a very decent human being; for which I am most grateful. Had he not been, Sam's, and perhaps others', ongoing story may have been very different.
