The village of Macdonald was officially gazetted in 1814 & became known as St Albans. It is believed to be named after the home town in England, of William Bailey who lived at "First Farm". It was declared a town in 1885. Grazing animals has long been a major activity in the valley & the "St Albans Common", north of the village, has been in active use since 1824 for locals to graze their stock. A walk around St Albans Village will provide the visitor with great historical interest. |
