Robert Whiteway born 21 Jan 1802 baptised 26 Feb 1802 in Highworth, Wiltshire, the youngest of 8 children of William & Mary or Elizabeth nee Gibbs
Robert Whiteway was uncle of James Whiteway who was also transported.
Robert Whiteway of Highworth married Charlotte Leader 22 Nov 1820 in Longcott Berks
Robert Whiteway committed for trial 7 Aug 1821, described as a labourer age 18y, then on
19 Sept 1821 Gloucester Summer Assizes, convicted of housebreaking, sentence Transportation for life (originally death)
Robert Whiteway transported on the ship ‘Prince of Orange’ & arrived in Tasmania on 23 July 1822. His gaol report described him as an idle loose character, his hulk report as orderly.
Robert Whiteway’s physical description – height 5ft ½in, grey eyes, light brown hair, several pockmarks on forehead. There was no statement re married or single. His trade was stable boy & ploughman

Robert’s record has some remarks about behaviour re sheep stealing and disobedience of orders in 1829, removed from his master and not to be put in Clyde District but he received a conditional pardon on 6 June 1836 and full pardon on 18 Jan 1840
Robert Whiteway became the licensee of the White Hart Hotel Bothwell Oct 1839 until his death in 1865
Robert married Mary Ann Larkins 1 Oct 1838 in Hamilton. Their daughter Rebecca was born 24 April 1845 Bothwell. Mary Ann died in Bothwell 12 Feb 1847 age 26y of haemorrhage after premature confinement
Robert married again 13 Jan 1848 in Bothwell to Ellen Wigmore (born in Lancs UK c1829, who died 18 Dec 1861 of lockjaw & an ulcerated throat) Robert died 8 May 1865 of bronchitis & diarrhoea
