Biographies

George who was 2nd cousin 4x removed was baptised on 14th August 1814 at St Nicholas Church, Brighton, Sussex, England.

He was the 5th child and 5th son of James and Mary (née MOORE) WINCHESTER who had 9 children (8 boys and 1 girl)

On 28th December 1828 George was tried at Lewes Assizes, Sussex England for stealing ladies’ handkerchiefs. He was sentenced to 7 years transportation.

The Sussex Advertiser dated 29th April 1828 reported that William Head, 16, labourer, Thomas Ling, 13 a labourer and George Winchester, 14, a labourer charged with stealing at Herstmonceux divers handkerchiefs the property of Sally Camberland.

24th February 1830 George was received on board the Euryalus which was moored at Chatham, Kent, England.

1877 George died in Foster, Victoria.
