Biographies

Born in 1789 in Compton, Berkshire, England, Adam Coleman married Phoebe Kimber in Turville, Buckinghamshire in 1812 and went on to live in White Waltham, Berkshire where he was an agricultural labourer and shepherd. The couple had eight children.
In 1819 Coleman was imprisoned for two months for larceny and in 1829 he was caught red-handed stealing pigs, convicted and transported to New South Wales for seven years. Arriving on the Katherine Stewart Forbes, he was put to work for John Dickson of Sydney. He was granted his Certificate of Freedom in 1836.
In 1844 Coleman applied to marry another freed convict called Sarah Paulding but the request was denied due to Coleman already being married back in England. Phoebe Coleman was in fact dead from consumption by this time.
