An instructive session to reinforce research techniques and resources for family historians. Suitable for beginners or as a refresher course.

Find out what records are held by State Records and where and how they can be accessed. More and more material is available online however some material still requires visiting the Reading Room at Kingswood.

Cavanough reunion - Norfolk Island 2014

A family reunion for members of the Owen Cavanough descendants is planned for Norfolk Island in March 2014. Ex Sydney 14-21 March 2014 or Ex Brisbane 15-22 March to coincide with the 224th Anniversary of the wrecking of Sirius on 19 March. Owen was on board that fatal day. Hawkesbury Library subscribes to Ancestry Library and it is available to use in the Library for free (on library PCs or wireless) The following new resources are especially noteworthy for 2013:

  • Public Member Trees now available but read only. Cannot contact the tree owner but can submit anonymous comments about any tree.
  • U.S. City Directories 1821-1989

Update from findmypast.ie

Hawkesbury Library subscribes to Find My PAsy Australia, IK and Ireland. It is available to use in the Library for free on library PCs. This month saw the addition of County Down Parish Registers to findmypast.ie.

SURFING THE INTERNET...SITES FOR FAMILY HISTORIANS

Members with internet access should check out the following interesting sites. The Library has free access to the internet, contact 4560 4460 for bookings at Windsor & 4578 2002 for Richmond bookings. If you have your own laptop we also have free wireless. The password is available from the Information Desk.
