NEXT MEETING

Emily O'Reilly from State Records will be the guest speaker at the 8th December 2004 meeting. She will be discussing the interesting topic of Preservation of family records.

THE LIBRARY IS MOVING*

The Library may be moving in March 2005. We do not have an exact date at the present time so the HFHG Meeting for March 2005 will be either in the Tebbutt Room or in the new library, however the first meeting for the year will remain unchanged. Moving dates will be confirmed closer to the completion of the new Art Gallery/Library building.

NEW PUBLICATIONS

  • John Miller has published his new history of the mushroom industry in the Hawkesbury called Reminiscences of a Fun'gi : the story of a community that mushroomed To order a copy contact John c/- PO Box 495, Windsor 2756.
  • Rosemary Phillis has published a huge new book on the history of Riverstone Meatworks. The 2004 Riverstone & District Historical Society Journal is also now available for sale. For an order form for either of these items contact the Riverstone & District Historical Society, PO Box 202, Riverstone 2765.
  • Michelle Nichols has compiled a publication called Pictorial History : Hawkesbury & district for Kingsclear publications. There will be a book signing at 11.30 at the end of the Hawkesbury Family History Group on the 8th December 2004. Anyone is welcome to attend.
  • Cathy McHardy is republishing When we were boys together: Reminiscences of the Hawkesbury District by J C L Fitzpatrick which was first published in 1909. This new volume contains the original text as well as an index, short biography of Fitzpatrick, photographs, a map of historic sites in Windsor, and a bibliography of Fitzpatrick's other work. Copies should be available in early December and can be ordered from Cathy at PO Box 258, Kurrajong, 2758 or by email at cathy@nisch.org . Cost will be advised as soon as copies are available but will be less than $25.00.
  • Rita Crane (Guest Speaker at today's meeting) has researched the history of St Gregory's Catholic Church, Kurrajong which was first consecrated in 1840. A book on the history of the church and school has been published by the Parish of Richmond to commemorate the construction of the present building which was consecrated in 1904. Copies are available from Rita Crane (phone: 4573 1354) for $20.00 per copy and will also be available at the celebrations in December.

LAND AND PROPERTY INFORMATION NEWS

Note that the Land and Property Information website (including NSW Parish Maps Preservation Project) has moved to the new NSW Dept of Lands website at www.lands.nsw.gov.au The Property Information Office is still located at the top of Macquarie Street, next to the Hyde Park Barracks Museum. Telephone contact: 02 9228 6666. Photocopies of certificates of title are now $10.00 each.

Click on 'Maps and Photos' to access the Parish Map Preservation Project or go to: http://www.lands.nsw.gov.au/MapsAndPhotos/ParishMaps/default.htm From the Dept of Lands Website click on 'Records' then 'Property Information' to access the online search page. The Lot and DP of a block of land or the Volume and Folio number can be found by doing a Street Address Inquiry search. The prior Lot and DP or prior Volume and Folio details may also be searched using the Prior Title Search. Both these searches are free. Other searches are available online for a charge of $8.00.

NOTE: NO personal names are included in online search results, only title deed numbers such as Volume and Folio or Lot and DP. Personal names are only included in searches done over the counter at the Property Information Office.
