Biographies

i have the following papers from the archives Referenced JC26/1852/120 and AD14/52/226 an Indictment against George Paterson, a Declaration made by him and extracts of previous convictions.. George Paterson and Jame Bulloch appeared at the High Court of Justiciary of Stirling on 14 April 1852. both had Previously been accused of Braking into the premises of James McKinlay,Bleacher at Glenmill,Campsie on the 23/24 August 1851.

Previous convictions referred to include the theft of various brass bushes,brackets and metal pipes in October 1849 at Spring Bank Bleachfield, Neilston (with Accomplice Peter Torrance) for which George was sentenced to 3 Months Prisonment at Paisley and the theft of Metal Plates and steam pipes from Wilson&co,Coal & Iron Masters,Keppochhill,LAnarkin April 1850 and was imprisoned for 60 at Glasgow Prison with HARD LABOUR. Apparently, George was no sooner out than he had broken into a Washhouse at Craigmaddie House,Baldernock in August 1850 and stolen lead and brass "cran",which was followed by the theft of clothing in November 1850 at Haughhead,Campsie,for which his sentence was 6 months imprisonment.
