Biographies

Thomas Nixon was born on 30th August 1794 at Brompton near Northallerton, Yorkshire to Thomas and Mary Nixon (Moffat)

He married Mary Wood at Knaresborough in 1820 and a daughter Elizabeth was born in 1822.

Thomas was convicted of stealing a saddle and bridle from Samuel Welford of Brompton on 4th June 1827 and sentenced to 7 years transportation.

Thomas arrived in Sydney on 13th September 1829. In 1838 he married Frances Roach and they had a son, Thomas and a daughter, Mary.

Thomas received his certificate of freedom in 1834 and worked in Sydney as a carter before moving to Maitland around 1846.
