Biographies

When James John Daley was born on January 22, 1815, in St. Giles, Middlesex, his father, John, was 54 and his mother, Jane, was 46. In 1829 James lived in Cripplegate a slum of StGiles. His mother died in 1929 when James was 14yo. He was convicted of Felonious Assault at Old Bailey of an 8 year old boy and stole his cap, sentenced to death commuted to Transportation for life. Via Marquis of Huntley. when 14Yo. Housed in Carters Barracks Sydney on arrival, Employed by Australian Agricultural Company in 1837 at Port Stephens. Ticket of Leave granted 1838 Port Stephens. Ticket of Leave Granted 1841 Goulburn in 1844 Recommended for Conditional Pardon 2 Mar 1846 Seconded Class Conditional Pardon (NSW State Records 4/4479 reel 797 p110 Married Mary Ann McPhee and they had 11 children together. He died on December 30, 1892, in Wagga Wagga, New South Wales, having lived a long life of 77 years, and was buried in the Monumental Cemetery there.
