NEXT MEETING

Today (11 December) is the final meeting for 2013. There is no meeting in January 2014 so the next meeting will be in 12 February. Hawkesbury Library Service wishes everyone a safe and happy Christmas and look forward to seeing you in the New Year.

REUNION PLANNED FOR MATTHEW PEARSON THOMPSON FAMILY 2014

In February 2014 it will be 200 years since convict Matthew Pearson Thompson arrived in Australia. A reunion will be held in St Albans in the last weekend in February 2014. Contact Trevor Thompson thompson350@ozemail.com.au

BOOK LAUNCH INVITE

"The Pioneering Spirit of Tennyson" by Noreen Montgomery & Peter O'Donnell will be launched at the Tennyson Rural Fire Shed at 246 Tennyson Road on Sunday 15 December, 2pm-4pm. Refreshments provided. All welcome.

DISCOVERING ANZACS ANNOUNCED

The National Archives of Australia and Archives New Zealand are working together to build a new website, Discovering Anzacs at http://discoveringanzacs.naa.gov.au/ This website will have a unique profile of every Anzac who enlisted in World War I, linked to their service record. You can help tell the story of Australia and New Zealand during the war by building on profiles and adding your own family stories, photos or details of their service.

Hawkesbury Library subscribes to Ancestry Library and it is available to use in the Library for free (on library PCs or wireless) The following new resources are especially noteworthy:

  • West Yorkshire Electoral Registers, 1840-1962
  • Surrey Electoral Registers, 1918-1945
  • Guinness Company Archive Index, 1824-2002
  • UK Royal Navy Medical Journals, 1817-1857

Update from findmypast

Hawkesbury Library subscribes to Find My Past Australia, UK and Ireland. It is available to use in the Library for free on library PCs. Find My Past.au have recently added the following information:

  • South Australian remote and unregistered deaths
  • Irish Petty Court Sessions Registers 1828-1912
  • British Royal Household Staff 1526-1924

Members with internet access should check out the following interesting sites. The Library has free access to the internet, contact 4560 4460 for bookings at Windsor & 4578 2002 for Richmond bookings. If you have your own laptop we also have free wireless. The password is available from the Information Desk.
