BATTLE OF RICHMOND HILL

Invitation to attend the annual commemoration of the Battle of Richmond Hill, which will take place on Sunday 28th May 2006 from 10.45am - 12.30pm at Richmond Hill at St. John of God Hospital grounds, 177 Grose Vale Road, North Richmond. This is to remember the Darug people who died defending their rights to country. A peace processions from car park 10.45 am sharp, followed by Ceremony. Morning tea available. EXPLORING ENGLISH CENSUS RECORDS

A second course will be run on Tuesday 23rd May 2006 at 7pm-8.30pm in the Hawkesbury Central Library. Participants will receive an informative session, handouts and hands on experience using the 1841-1901 UK census records online at the library. Bookings required contact 4560-4466. Cost is $5.50, payable on the note.

NEW LOCAL STUDIES ITEMS

New Local Studies items now available to consult in the Local Studies Collection at Windsor Central Library. To check the Library catalogue online go to http://catalogue.hawkesbury.nsw.gov.au/amlibweb/

The following are CD-ROMs available to use on the Local Studies PC in the Library. It is a good idea to book this PC prior to visiting. Contact 4560-4460 for bookings. A number of these items were already held on fiche in the collection, however CDs make searching easier.

  • Convicts & employers (NSW) index : 1828, 1832-1833, Jan 1838-Jan 1844 / compiled by Aileen Trinder & Pat Stemp
  • Free railway passes (NSW) index 1880-1892 / compiled by Aileen Trinder & Pat Fearnley
  • Immigration deposit indexes (includes Journals Index 1853-1900 & supplementary index 1856-7)
  • Pastkeys miscellaneous indexes : Unclaimed letters index 1836-1852. Unemployed registers 1860, 1884 index. Wages paid to orphans index 1849-1851.
