Biographies

What I have on this man is mostly outlined online here:
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~parrottandbell/parrott/49.html
While he came to New Zealand, where I was born, the link to me is via his son John born in NZ but, who we believe sired a son John James PARROTT in 1851, nr Morpeth. The link is unproven for me. But despite William's (or because of), his progeny, his influence spread far and wide in NSW and NZ.
He wasn't a very nice man as evidenced by his devious relationship dealings. But when one recalls that he was probably a 'street kid' some years before he was apprehended at age 17, it's no wonder he floundered. He died alone and miserable in 1860 in Sydney.
As evidence of his stonemason skills however, there are no doubt walls still standing in Sydney and there is definitely an iconic building of his still standing in far-flung parts of Northern New Zealand, in Kerikeri.
Life events in UK: born 13 Mar 1801, Arnold,Nottingham,England,United Kingdom, baptized 13 Mar 1801 St Mary's,Arnold,Nottingham,England,United Kingdom Parents: John Parrot [sic] and Martha Brown (m.5 May 1800 St Mary's, Arnold, Nottingham, England, United Kingdom). 3 known siblings: Martha 1787, Elizabeth 1793, Rebecca 1795. This is my note on the birth date discrepancies vis-à-vis the marriage date: "It is uncertain why so many children are born before the marriage date. Given John's age at the marriage of 1800 (42), there may have been a previous marriage to a woman of the same first name. However one does not show up on a search. Although the first child's mother is stated as Martha Brown". Source: FamilySearch, q.v. There is some supposition here. However the evidence is quite good. Arnold to Lenton (where he offended) these days is 5 miles, both now suburbs of Nottingham. The family links and names seem to be a good fit. Contact me for further information.
