James Belcher single man was tried and convicted at Oxford Assizes Court 27 February 1841 and sentenced to 7 years transportation. He arrived at Hobart VDL 5 July 1842 per 'Eden'(1) that left Woolwich England 22 March 1822. He was born about 1812 at Witney Oxford England. His TOL was granted 13 October 1846. He applied to marry in February 1848 and married firstly 8 May 1848 New Norfolk Tas to Margaret (unknown) (c1817-1885) and upon Margaret's death he married secondly 5 November 1885 New Norfolk to Mary Jane Poulter who was born 1857 Campbelltown Tas, her death details not known. James died 15 January 1887 at New Norfolk Tas and was said to be aged 74 years. Note his age was given as 60 years when he married his second wife in 1885 which if correct would then make his dob about 1825.
