Biographies


Willaim Brown was born in Scalford, near Melton Mowbray in Leicestershire in 1819. He was transported to Van Diemen's Land on his third conviction of theft in 1843. William spent seven years in the New Norfolk Asylum. After his release, he travelled to Victoria, and thirteen years after his conviction, he returned back to England. Eight weeks after returning, a terrible murder happened in Melton Mowbray. William was hunted down, convicted and executed for murder. William Brown, otherwise known as Peppermint Billy, the last man publicly hanged in Leicester, UK.
