Biographies

James Stephenson was born in 1804 in Helston Cornwall (as described on his Ticket of Leave). James arrived on board Midas 2 in 1827 having been charged at Northamptonshire Assizes with theft. Described as a Waterman. He was assigned to AAC in Port Stephens. He married Isabella McLaren and they had three children together. After Isabella's death he married Sarah Ann Fitt and they had five children together. He died on March 26, 1865, in Dungog, New South Wales, at the age of 61, and was buried there. James became a successful business man and Inn Keeper In Dungog NSW the Inn know as Stephenson's Inn is still in use but not as an Inn. (2016) After Isabella's death James sold or leased all of his property and lapsed into Alcoholism. He and his wife were eventually charged with the Murder of their daughter Charlotte 18 months due to neglect. James died within hours of Charlotte's death and Sarah served six months Gaol due to her alcoholism. Buried in Ansley's Flat Cemetery Dungog in an unmarked grave.
