Biographies

Henry MURRAY was born in Liverpool England, according to his convict records, he was sentenced to seven year's and transportation to Australia in the Lancaster Quarter Sessions 23rd October 1820. His occupation at the time was listed as a Clerk.
Henry's Description was: 18 years of age, 5'5" tall, pale pock-pittered completion, brown hair and grey eyes. Henry was transported to Australia on vessel Grenada, departing Plymouth England on the 15th May 1821 and arriving Sydney Cove 16th September 1821. On board was 152 male prisoners and stores.
On the 13th March 1824 Henry was assigned to a Payne L Baison of Sydney which may make his Ticket of Leave, which there is no record about that time.
On the 30th October 1827 Henry was issued a Certificate of Freedom, on the certificate shows occupation as clerk, year of birth 1802 and place of birth as Liverpool England. Certificate of Freedom Reference No 1827-979. Age 24 years at time of release. In the 1828 census Henry was employed by Patrick Blaney in Macquarie Street Sydney as a Clerk. Census Reference No M3654.
On the marriage certificate of Henry and Mary Abraham it shows Henry was a widower, on his death certificate it shows the name of his first wife as Amelia Hollis and they were married in 1833. They was no record of this marriage between Henry and Amelia, but there was a record of a marriage between Amelia HOLLIS and a Henry MURRAY in 1833. Note spelling in marriage archive as Emelia.
Henry remarried in 1840 to Mary ABRAHAM at St Andrew's Church, Parish of St Andrew's, in the County of Cumberland. On Henry's marriage certificate in 1840 shows that his occupation as a Clerk.
Henry passed away at the Destitute Asylum, Parramatta, Sydney, NSW., Aust. on the 7th February 1880. Attending doctor was recorded as Dr R C Rutter. Cause of death was recorded on his death certificate as Angina-Pectoris which he had suffered for many years. Death was registered at Parramatta, Sydney, NSW. by his daughter Cornelia REARDON on the 9th Feburary 1880. Henry was layed to rest at St John's Cemetery, Parramatta, Sydney, NSW. (Undertaker Jordon SPARKES).
