16 July 1820- Hugh convicted of Insurrection at Roscommon and senteced to 14 years transportation.
Arrived NSW on the John Barry 7th November 1821 and assigned to Robert Lowe JP. Transported over the Blue Mountains to Bathurst where he worked as a shepherd on Robert Lowe's land at Sidmouth Valley.
In 1827 he successfully applied to have Mary and Martin brought out from Ireland at government expense. They arrived on the vessel Sir Joseph Banks on 7th October 1828.
Hugh gained a Ticket of Leave on 5th August 1829, which allowed him to work for wages in the Bathurst district.
On 23rd September 1834 Hugh gained his Certificate of Freedom.
He leased land at Campbell's River in the Bathurst area.
Hugh and Mary had a further seven children (5 boys and 2 girls).
Hugh died at Campbell's River 28th October 1844 and was buried in the Catholic cemetery at Bathurst, which was later built over by the railway yards.
Mary remarried and moved to Mudgee, where she died on 21st June 1871.
