Biographies

George Tyler / Taylor

Born: 11th. May 1813, Wiltshire England.

Occupation: Carter.

5th. March, 1831. Convicted of housebreaking, Wiltshire Assizes.

Age: 18 years.

Sentence: Life. No previous convictions.

Description: 5ft. 2ins. Ruddy complection.
Brown hair. Hazel eyes. Scar outer corner left eye.
Small scar, right side forehead. Sunken breast.

Arrived: Sydney, aboard convict transport Asia1, 13th. Feb. 1832.

Married Martha Southwell at St Johns Parramatta, 28th. May 1842.

George, a Bachelor of Parramatta parish. Martha, a Spinster of Burwood parish.

First child Marianne, born Wittingham NSW, near Singleton, 10th. Sept. 1843.

Father is registered as George Taylor and all their children are registered as Taylor.

Third child William Taylor, born 1847. My great Grandfather.

There were either nine or eleven children in total.

Dec. 1847, was granted a “Ticket of Leave” and was residing at Patrick’s Plains, NSW.

George Taylor died 31st. July 1892 at “Terrible Vale”, a settlement of small holdings between Werris Creek and Currabubula.

Death is registered at Quirindi, NSW.

Martha Southwell, Wife of George Tyler

Born: 1822, East Wellow, Hampshire, England.

Occupation: House Servant.

Arrived: 7th. Sept. 1841, Age 19 years.

Assisted immigrant, aboard China, under the care of the captain.

Died: 11th. August, 1894 at “Terrible Vale”, death registered at Quirindi, NSW.

Both are buried in the Anglican section of the Currabubula Cemetery.
