Biographies

George Kinnaird aka Kinnear was born c1818 in Edinburgh, Scotland, the 2nd son of George Kinnaird and Isabella Leitch. Convicted of theft, along with two accomplices, from a shop owned by Alexander Ross, Spirit Dealer, and having two previous Police convictions, he was sentenced at Edinburgh Court of Judiciary on 15 Mar. 1831 "to be transported beyond seas for a period of 14 years. At his Deposition on 18 Jan. 1831, George had stated that he was " 12 or 13 years of age".
Transferred from Edinburgh to the Prison Hulk 'Euryalus' at Chatham, Kent on 15 Apr. 1831, he was held there until 29 Nov.1832 when he was transferred to the Convict Ship 'Mangles', which sailed from London on 14 Dec. 1832, arriving at Port Jackson, NSW on 19 Apr.1833.
Assigned Convict #33/975, he was issued with 'Ticket of Leave' #43/1154 on 7 Apr. 1843, District of Goulburn, NSW.
Two of George's brothers were also transported, Alexander in 1830 to NSW and Thomas in 1841 to VDL.
