John was convicted at Chester Nether Knutsford Quarter Sessions on 11 April 1849 and sentenced to 14 years transportation, he arrived West Australia aboard William Jardine on 1 August 1852.

John was convicted on 2 January 1856 of murder William Longmate at Vasse District and sentenced to death.
