William was born Scotland and was convicted at Edinburgh Court of Justiciary on 16 July 1829 and sentenced to life transportation, he arrived Sydney aboard Dunvegan Castle on 30 March 1830

William and twelve others were convicted at Court Martial on 18 July 1834 and entrenched to death

William together with Anderson, Freshwater, Groves, Knowles & Ryan were hanged on 23 September 1834 at Norfolk Island ( the other seven being hanged the day previous)
