Charles was born 1815 Mayo County Ireland and convicted at Mayo in 1836 of "steal trousers" and sentenced to 7 years transportation, he arrived Sydney aboard Earl Gray on 31 December 1836

Charles was convicted May 1841 of shooting murder Robert Bulmer (Marquis Huntley) on 16 October 1840 at Bathurst and sentenced to death.
