Biographies

John Darcey/D'arcy/Darcy was born in Dublin and convicted on 21 July 1828 Lancaster Quarter Sessions Salfords for stealing 3 rabbits. His sentence was 7 years, at age 15. He was imprisoned on the hulk Euryalus moored at Chatham from 15 August 1828 and transferred to the hulk Justicia moored at Woolwich on 15 August 1829. He was transported to NSW on 16 September 1829 on Dunvegan Castle, arriving in 1830.

John Darcy was a shoemaker and received his Certificate of Freedom in 1835. He married Ellen Gorman, the daughter of two convicts, Thomas Gorman and Catherine McLaughlin. At the time of his death in Sydney in 1889, he had four living children.
