Biographies

From the age he gave when he wed in 1840, Henry Hunt was born about 1815.

Transportation. In 1829, Henry was convicted at the Sussex Quarter Session with transportation for life to Van Diemen's Land for stealing fowls. The ship Mary left England on 15th December 1829, arriving Van Diemen's Land on 10th April 1830.

Marriage. Since he had arrived in the Colony as a convict, Henry to seek permission to wed Ann Newitt, who had arrived free. He said he had arrived by the ship Mary. Permission was granted about November 1840.

On 24th December 1840, Henry said he was a 25-year-old labourer when he married Ann Newitt at St George's Church, Sorell, Tasmania. Ann was a 26-year-old Spinster. The United Church of England and Ireland ceremony was performed, by Banns, by James Norman, Minister, before witnesses Ephraim Newitt and Maria Holding. The men in the bridal party were able to sign their name, Ann and Maria gave their mark.

Death. Henry died 14th July 1901, with his age recorded at 90 years.
